Match Your Fashion Personality with a TLBC Style

The Holidays are here and with them comes the challenge of gift buying! Whether you are shopping for a special someone or making your own list (because even though it's the thought that counts...let's be honest...some thoughts are better than others) guides can be your saving grace!

You might not know it, but your lingerie style has a lot to do with your personality. When you think about personal style, you may not immediately consider your lingerie wardrobe in the mix. Shoes, handbags, clothing and accessories encompass the essentials for your everyday fashion. But, as with every outfit, personal style truly starts at the foundations!

To help you this season the TLBC team got together and sorted our styles to fit a few different fashion personalities. Classic, chic, sweet, or sporty we have the perfect style!

    Urban Chic

You know what is in style but aren’t a slave to fashion. You wear what looks good on you and work with what you’ve got! Fashion, for you is not all about labels and price tags, it’s about you.

This sound like you or someone you know!? Try these TLBC styles - Barbara, Stephanie, Erin, and Ethel

    Calm and Classic

The sign of grace, and tasteful style. You like to keep your outfit simple and timeless. Clean, straight lines dominate the closet. You are minimalist and elegant, but still like to feel sexy. Think Jackie O, Victoria Beckham, and Ashley Olsen.

Calling all Calm and Classic ladies! Try these perfect TLBC styles - Ellie, Celeste, Sascha, and Francesca.

    Sweet & Quirky

For the girl next door…you are youthful and carefree. You value femininity and may be a hopeless romantic. Ruffles, lace, and pleats are just some of the whimsy, feminine details that tend to catch your eye. Unafraid of fashion risks, you combine different styles into one.

For all our sweet and quirky girls, we suggest - Sonia, Esther, Eva, and Courtney.

    Sporty and Sophisticated

For the girl on the go. You’re energetic and practical. You stray away from fussy fashion and favor the easy and effortless. Despite valuing comfort and functionality you still find a way to show her feminine side. You can be anywhere from yoga class to meeting up with your friends and no matter where you are you love to look and feel good!

Sporty and sophisticated right up your ally? Try - Julia, Isis, Lisa, and Elizabeth.

So, get shopping! Start out the New Year in something sexy from TLBC and don’t forget to follow us on Instagram and Twitter for the latest TLBC

Ways To Help Reduce Your Risk For Breast Cancer

It is never too late to learn the many different ways to help reduce your risk for Breast Cancer. Even if no one in your family has been diagnosed with Breast Cancer, the 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, statistic still applies.

Here is a list of helpful ideas to consider that will help lower your risk for Breast Cancer:

    * Make a mammogram appointment if you haven’t had one in a while.

    * Every month you should do a breast self-exam. There are two parts to this exam. The first part is looking and the second part is touching. Websites like Bright Pink,  offer step-by-step instructions on how to do an accurate self-exam. The organization also offers monthly breast self-exam reminders that can be sent directly to your phone.

     * Maintain a healthy weight.

    * Stay physically active—the American Cancer Society recommends a daily workout of 30 minutes, which also includes walking.

    * Avoid consuming too much alcohol.

    * If you are a new mother, breastfeeding 1+ years has several benefits for you and your child.

    * Consume more fruits and vegetables each day. The top fruits and vegetables for great health include citrus, berries, cherries, broccoli, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, kale, spinach and tomatoes.

    * Maintaining a positive outlook helps your body maintain a healthy balance and will help you make healthy decisions.

Even though the statistics sound scary, if you take the time to maintain a healthy lifestyle while taking the time to stay informed and conduct your self-exams each month—the survival rate for those who discover they have breast cancer at an early stage is 98%.

It is important to note that for younger women, it is common to feel lumps each month around your menstruation cycle. Lumps that you have not felt before and that feel harder that the breast tissue, like a frozen pea, are a concern. Other symptoms may include persistent itching, nipple discharge or any other major changes in your breasts like change in size or shape. If you experience any of these or are not sure, always make an appointment with your doctor.

It is important to know your breasts so you can recognize any changes…so ladies start feeling your boobs.

Support the cause and shop for bras! - Use code THINKPINK for 15% off storewide! 15% of sale proceeds will be given to The Foundation for Living Beauty!

  • TLBC Fashion Focus | Designer Spotlight

    Designer Spotlight | Carolina Alvo

In honor of TLBC Fashion Focus week, we are highlighting one our favorite petite designers, Carolina Alvo!

Carolina Misan Alvo is the founder of  ‘Carolina Alvo’, a fantastic clothing line featuring fresh and elegant pieces that will fit and flatter the petite frame to perfection!

As a true petite, measuring in at 4’9, Carolina truly understands the frustration that comes with shopping for a petite frame. Unsatisfied with her options and taking matters into her own hands, Carolina launched ‘Carolina Alvo’! With a clear vision and the determination of a born entrepreneur, Carolina has founded a company that not only creates perfectly petite pieces, but also works to inspire and empower petite women everywhere.

LBC: How did Caroline Alvo become what it is today?

CMA: I am 4’9” and shopping has always been a nightmare for me. I always wished for a better shopping solution but was never able to find one, even in the petite sections of major retailers. So when I was unexpectedly laid-off from my job in January 2013 I decided that it was my chance to see if I could create the shopping savior I had been looking for. I initially started the company as a petite retailer where I brought together petite and petite-friendly designers all in one store. Ultimately I decided to move away from that business model and create my own brand because I wasn’t able to find enough designers that made great clothes for petites. I took all the early customer feedback and created Carolina Alvo as a source for essential pieces that every woman needs in her closet that can take her from work to weekend and everywhere in between!

LBC: What is the inspiration behind the new collection?

CMA: Feedback from my customers plus the amazing businesswomen I have gotten to meet throughout my many years of living in New York are definitely the inspiration behind my collection. I had so many customers write to me saying “I need more petite basics,” “I’m 50 years old and I want to wear something age-appropriate, but hate the boxy pant suits available in petite departments!” I took this feedback and thought about the inspiring women around me – they were running around from one place to the next doing amazing things, and they didn’t have any spare time to endlessly search for an outfit that fit right and made them look great. I wanted to create a line that could seamlessly fit into their lives so they could get along with the great things they were doing in their day.

LBC: What are your biggest fashion struggles as a petite?

CMA: There simply aren’t enough designers making clothes for petites. You crave the selection and the styles available in regular-sized clothing, but you also crave a proper petite fit. So it’s pretty hard for most petite women to find a lot of basic things – from jeans, to maxi dresses, to a suit for work. Even though we’re half the female population in the US the fashion industry has quite literally overlooked this huge market!

LBC: What are your favorite things about being petite?

CMA: I think it’s shaped a lot of my personality – I think if I was taller I would have a totally different personality, so I’ve learned to embrace and love my height. On a practical level, I love that I can fit into small spaces. You won’t see me ever complain about sitting in coach on a long flight – I can sleep like a champ on planes !

LBC: What are your 2 favorite pieces from the debut 'Carolina Alvo' collection?

CMA: This is such a tough question! Since there are only five pieces, I really love them all because they are so versatile and easy to style. But if I had to pick two, I would go with the Avani Blazer, which I’ll usually wear with jeans, and the Kathleen Dress, which makes me look instantly put-together.

    Pre-order here

LBC: What is your best piece of fashion advice for petites?

CMA: Petites can wear anything thing – I don’t believe in “fashion don’ts”. The key is finding things that are truly made for your proportion. Once you find that, you can pull of anything your heart desires…and yes, that includes cropped pants and loose-fitting clothes.

A petite powerhouse with a wonderful aesthetic, Carolina Alvo, is a true example that “Good things do come in small packages.”™ The TLBC team is excited to share her story and supports all she is doing to change the way petite women approach shopping and fashion in general.

  • Motivational Monday | Oscars Speech Edition

    Motivational Monday Oscars Edition

    Happy Monday!!

It is the day after Oscar Sunday and we, like so many others, are reliving every wonderful, crazy, touching, hilariously perfect moment!

The fashion was wow; the nominees were all amazing, Ellen did a lovely job, and the winners were all gracious and deserving! We enjoyed the best selfie moment to date (as did everyone else clearly). We started to crave pizza right around the time it was passed around, and we jumped on board the new ultimate fantasy couple train- hello Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Emma Watson!

Whether you enjoyed it as much as we did or missed the golden statue’s big night, there were some truly inspirational moments that the TLBC Team would like to commemorate for this special edition of Motivational Monday!

Last night, like many Oscar nights before it, was chalk full of beautiful, heartfelt, and tearful acceptance speeches. Touching stories and wise words were shared, all together making some wonderful TV moments.

Jared Leto spoke beautifully about his mother and ended with “…to those of you who have ever felt injustice because of who you are and who you love, I stand here in front of the world with you and for you.” Eloquently put Mr. Leto. We thank you for those beautiful words and your equally as beautiful hair!

Cate Blanchett once again proved she is supremely classy, and a little bit bad a** (excuse the strong wording). In a speech including many words of thanks and lovely messages to her fellow nominees, (reference “#suckit Julia, you know what I mean?”) she ended with a shout out to the strength and prominence of female driven films. Her strong parting words “The world is round people!” were some of our favorite of the night.

Matthew McConaughey won best actor for his superb job in Dallas Buyer’s Club and once again regaled us with his flawlessly wise words and smile worthy life lessons. Sharing with us his secrets for a happy life, which include God, something to look forward to, and a hero to chase (incidentally it’s himself in 10 years). Matthew once again made us smile, made us laugh, and ended with our favorite “Alright, alright, alright!”

Though all of the above were wonderful and memorable, this edition of “Motivational Monday” includes a line from the supremely lovely Lupito Nyongo’s speech. The best supporting actress winner was the epitome of grace and style last night and, with her words of thanks, she solidified herself as a true lady -

Our favorite moment - “No matter where you’re from, your dreams are valid”.

So as you begin your week, remember that your dreams are valid, and this may just be the week to begin chasing them!
